Mel's musings.... notes from the Chairman

Can you believe Easter has been and gone? This year has really flown by.

The Eafoodies have had a slow start to the year with only one event so far which was at The Old Rectory, Great Yarmouth Road in Norwich. Chris and the team really pulled out the stops and the comments following the event were very positive. The 'Attleborough rib eye steak' was wonderful and the 'Hot smoked salmon' starter really interesting.

Over the next few months we have some great events planned including a return to Mike and Josie Kirkham's for a wine matching dinner on the 16th May. Last year the Kirkhams wowed us with a six course dinner with accompanying wines, which in basic terms 'blew our socks off'. This year, no doubt will be equally memorable.

Over the past couple of months I have had some great restaurant food experiences, including a really great lunch at the Wilderbeast Arms (EDP Food Award finalists) and at 1 Up, another Animal Inns restaurant.

Wine is always on my agenda and Bottoms up and Majestic have had some super wines on offer, its good to go in and take a chance on something unusual from time to time. I also enjoyed a great Rioja from Lidl of all places. It's not the cost, but the depth of taste and for just £4.99 my taste buds went crazy when combined with beef in adnams beer - yummy!

Norwich has so many hidden secrets when it comes to restaurants, we all have our favourites, mine are the AA two rosette Manor Restaurant at Sprowston Manor (of course, I work there) the Debut Restaurant at the City College - a training ground for the chefs of the future, Mr Chris Busby at Brasteds Framingham Earl and The Broad House Hotel in Wroxham. Also for a great pub experience the Chequers Arm in Hainford, who could fault their vast menu and the great Moule.... plus their Beef Wellington.

I know we are all busy people but I am sure that you have lots of great personal wine & food experiences so please don't be shy, lets us know - send us a review or your comments or pictures and we will publish them on this site.

Summer is looming (I hope) and I wish you a super season of great food and wine.

It leaves me to say thank you to all who continue to be members of the IWFS EA Branch and, to all potential new members, join us, it's fun..!!!!

Best wishes

Mel
