East Anglia Foodies find
Fine dining in Norfolk…..

18 Bedford Street is a beautiful grade II listed building that stands in the ancient part of Norwich City centre opposite Bridewell Alley.
Many years ago it was known as Hectors House and more recently as a vodka bar Kafe Da. It has now been re-launched as a sophisticated continental style café bar and fine dining restaurant spread over three floors. There is also a private roof terrace courtyard.
The new owners have set out to source fresh, seasonal produce supplied by local traders and growers and the kitchen is run by Head Chef Tristram Docherty and sous chef David Crawford.
19 members and guests from East Anglia Foodies turned out on Friday 11th July to try out the seven course tasting menu and wines supplied by local supplier Buy the Case , and had exclusive use of the first floor dining room.
On arrival we stated with Araldica Gavi La Luciana, Piedmonte , 2007. All the 7 dishes were beautifully presented and the service was excellent...smooth and efficient. The portions were just right given the number of courses. The first 4 courses were really excellent and the wines were a reasonably good match for the food. If I had to add one tiny comment it would be that each of the courses probably had one element too many.
The desserts were less successful, the Hot chocolate soufflé disappointing ,and the Avocado chilli ice cream really didn’t work with the crème brulee. The dessert wines were great on their own , especially the Vin Santo and Tokaji.

Overall we had a great evening in a promising new addition to the restaurants of Norwich. Mel Benns our Chair, thanked past chairman Nigel Ragan for organising the event and all the brigade lead by Head Chef Tristram Docherty, and Alistair Wilson of Buy the Case who provided the Wines for the event.
