Two
reviews from IWFS members attending the festivals 'Moveable Feast night:
The Moveable
Feast was on Tuesday evening and 10 of us went along. Our dining experience
was very varied. The starter at the Wine Press was ok. I
had the belly pork with noodles and bbq sauce. The pork could have been
cooked a little more to make it crispy. Peter had the prawns, nice but
with only 4 on the plate so he was looking forward to main course.
Main course
is a story all on its own!!! Went to 'Pulse', a vegetarian
restaurant, not our choice at all. A 'Chick Pea Burger' was awful, and there
were no side orders or even any tomato ketchup!. I had pasta with summer
vegetables which was ok but fairly bland. We definitely will not be going
there again ......!
The dessert
course was at the Library which was nice. Great venue except
it was a bit smokey, not from
cigarettes but from the American Wood Stove. I had cheese which i really
enjoyed. Peter had a Creme Brulee which he also enjoyed. We took a peek
at the menu and we will definitely return to sample a full meal in the
future.
All in all
an enjoyable evening with friends and the veggie restaurant will be a topic
for laughs in the future.

Following on
from Mels Moveable Feast, our experience seemed to have been similar in
that the starter was fine at 'Indulgence' - I had olives
and bread, only criticism was that they were clearly 'jarred' - pre-packed
olives, and it would have been more enjoyable if it had been 'home made
crusty bread'!
The main course
at the Wine Press was diabolical! the choice was either Sea
Bass or Pheasant or a veggie option, opting for the Pheasant spiralled
into incompetence and farce, having heard on another groups table that
the pheasant was RAW, I asked the waiter to ensure that mine was cooked
properly, even if this needed the chef to cut open the breast and check.
On receipt of my meal I checked the pheasant turned it over and found it
had 'bled' profusely onto my plate - you guessed raw. The manager was very
apologetic and has offered a complimentary meal - be warned not a good
first impression of the Wine Press.
Dessert was
at the 'Pulse' - an 'Eton mess' was enjoyed, must admit on
checking the menu, I wasn't overly inspired with the veggie options.
All in all
the Moveable Feast is a great idea and long may it continue. However organisers/restaurants
take note, for a high profile event such as this, all foods should be of
the highest quality. That's my grumble over! hope to see you all at the
next get together .
